You can 3D-print your own Destiny hand cannon in 24 hours
A product designer from South Africa and Destiny gamer decided to combine his skills and hobby to create something wonderful: a 3D printed, life-sized weapon from Destiny.
Specifically, Kirby Downey recreated the Thorn exotic hand cannon complete with working trigger, hammer and rotating barrel.
The entire gun can be assembled without the need for any glue. To make the prop, Downey writes that he first created a model using CAD design software Solidworks. The process took him about 10 hours, he writes. Then it took about 24 hours to print the pieces that go into creating the gun.
“I have replicated the unique trigger interaction that you get in the game where if you slowly squeeze the trigger button the hammer moves back slowly in the game,” he writes. “The spring action is created with a simple loom band which can be seen in the images. The model also features a rotating barrel and a reload mechanism which simulates the action in the game.”
It looks like you can download the prints for the gun over at My Mini Factory.
